Madar (Nouakchott) - Mauritania's Minister of Fisheries and Maritime and Port Infrastructure, Aissata Lam, accompanied by the governor of Dakhlet Nouadhibou, toured several of her sector's institutions in Nouadhibou on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, the Mauritanian News Agency reported, a day after visiting the Autonomous Port of Nouakchott.

She began at the national office for the sanitary inspection of fishery and aquaculture products, touring its chemistry, parasitology, toxins and microbiology laboratories and hearing a presentation on its role in protecting public health and the competitiveness of exports.

She then visited the Mauritanian fish marketing company and ended the first day at the Autonomous Port of Nouadhibou, where she was briefed on the port's trade activity and reforms.

The minister followed progress on the rehabilitation of the commercial quay and was briefed on the ongoing extension, which is meant to allow the port to receive large ships, speed up cargo handling and increase capacity. The agency gave no figures on the institutions' activity.
