Madar (Dakar) - The national executive bureau of Senegal's Autonomous Union of Doctors, Pharmacists and Dental Surgeons (SAMES), meeting in extraordinary session, has called a 72-hour nationwide strike on Wednesday 28, Thursday 29 and Friday 30 October 2026, with emergency services maintained, according to a statement relayed by Dakaractu on Tuesday, 27 October.

The union cites the persistence of unmet demands. It said it was outraged by remarks it attributes to the Minister of Health and Public Hygiene, who allegedly invited Senegalese doctors to seek jobs abroad, calling them contemptuous and a sign of inability to provide concrete answers to the health system's problems.

Acting in agreement with two other health-sector organisations, COMES and AIAIHS, SAMES urged members to show discipline, responsibility and solidarity during the three days and announced a press briefing on Thursday, 29 October at 11:00 in Dakar.

"SAMES is determined. SAMES is united. SAMES will not give in," the statement said, adding that the mobilisation would continue until its demands are fully met. The source carried no government response.
