Madar (Nouakchott) - A workshop to present and hand over the final report of the feasibility study on sustainable aviation fuel in Mauritania opened in Nouakchott on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, the Mauritanian News Agency reported.

The study aims to assess the country's potential to develop this type of fuel and the economic, technical and environmental opportunities linked to its production, to help diversify the economy and cut carbon emissions from air transport.

The secretary general of the Ministry of Equipment and Transport said the study lays the groundwork for informed decisions on the future of this fuel in Mauritania, adding that making use of its findings requires effective national coordination and partnerships with economic players and technical and financial partners.

The study was prepared with technical support from the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and European Union funding under the ACT-SAF project, according to the deputy director general of the National Civil Aviation Agency. Its findings were not made public.
