Madar (Nouakchott) - The governor of Mauritania's Tiris Zemmour region on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, oversaw in Zouerate the distribution of cash aid to 154 families affected by recent rains in the Zouerate and F'derik departments, the Mauritanian News Agency reported.

The aid, totalling 9,856,000 old ouguiyas, was provided by the charity of the National Industrial and Mining Company (SNIM), on the initiative of the company's operations director.

The governor said administrative authorities and the regional emergency and crisis management committee had assessed affected households during visits to neighbourhoods flooded by the recent rains.

He said help began with the first rains, when the national solidarity agency Taazour provided assistance, before the SNIM charity stepped in with additional cash support.
