Madar (Nouakchott) - MP Biram Dah Abeid held a meeting with cadres of the political forces backing his presidential project, devoted to consultations on upcoming political contests, coordinating efforts and stepping up political and organisational mobilisation in preparation for the next stage.

The move brings back into focus the presidential election expected in mid-2029, amid growing political activity over the future of the country's political landscape.

It comes as Biram Dah Abeid continues to boycott the national dialogue being prepared, which is expected to discuss presidential term limits, while voices in the ruling majority call for a constitutional amendment that would allow President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani to run for a third term.

Ghazouani came to power in August 2019, succeeding former president Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz, and was re-elected in June 2024.
