Madar (Nouakchott) - Mauritanian MP Mohamed Lemine Sidi Mouloud was elected on Saturday in Cairo as chair of the Arab Parliament's legislative committee, during the renewal of the body's leadership, which covered the election of the speaker, deputy speakers and the chairs and deputy chairs of its four standing committees.
The election allows Mauritania to keep the chair of one of the Arab Parliament's standing committees, a post he also held two years ago.
The Arab Parliament also elected Saudi Arabia's Saad bin Nasser Al-Otaibi as its speaker, succeeding the UAE's Mohamed Ahmed Al-Yammahi, whose term had ended. Said Al-Saadi of Oman, Hisham Al-Hosari of Egypt, Ihsan Barakat of Jordan and Abdessalam Nassia of Libya were elected deputy speakers.
The Arab Parliament's bodies are renewed every two years, with the speaker serving a two-year term that can be held for two terms at most.
