Madar (Dakar) - Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye on Saturday, October 24, 2026, inaugurated the 15th fire and rescue company in Diamniadio, near Dakar, saying 11 billion CFA francs had been planned in the 2026 amended finance law to extend the coverage of the national fire brigade, with the aim of a company in every department, the Senegalese Press Agency (APS) reported.

"There is still a way to go," the president said, in the presence of Interior Minister Mouhamadou Makhtar Cisse and the brigade commander, adding: "We will continue to strengthen the national fire brigade." He cited a recent accident in Dakar that killed two workers, with a six-minute delay before rescuers intervened.

The new company is meant to cut intervention distances previously covered by the 14th company over a large area around Rufisque. The announcement comes after the National Assembly's finance committee rejected the 2026 amended finance bill on Friday amid disagreement between MPs and the government.
