Madar (Dakar) - French President Emmanuel Macron has called off his tour of Nigeria and Senegal planned for late October amid social unrest in France, according to Jeune Afrique, as cited on Friday, October 23, 2026, by the Senegalese news site Senego.

The trip was to take him to Abuja and then to Dakar, where he was expected on October 30 and 31, in what would have been his first official visit to Senegal since the election of President Bassirou Diomaye Faye. The Elysee had not officially announced the visit, the same source said.

A headline carried by the Ici Beyrouth website, citing the French president's entourage, spoke instead of a "postponement" of the trip planned for October 28 to 31, with no new date. Madar has not seen an official statement from the Elysee.

The visit was set against Senegal's hosting of the Youth Olympic Games and Paris's efforts to relaunch its relations in West Africa, according to Jeune Afrique, as France has seen days of protests and violence over rising prices.
