Madar (Nouakchott) - Mauritania's Ministry of Trade and Industry has announced that tomatoes are again available in markets at 500 old ouguiyas per kilogram, saying prices have returned to their usual levels.
In a statement, the ministry said consumer protection teams had brought prices under control and back to normal levels in markets and vegetable shops.
It added that its teams had launched a broad campaign against speculation, hoarding and illegal trading practices, in coordination with administrative and security authorities, and that daily inspections continue to ensure compliance with set prices and protect citizens' purchasing power.
The ministry urged citizens to report any hoarding or illegal price increases through the toll-free consumer protection numbers.
