Madar (Algiers) - French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot raised the issue of restrictions on French goods in Algeria at a meeting of European Union foreign ministers, two diplomats told Reuters.

A European summary of a meeting held on October 12 confirmed the issue was discussed, while diplomats said Algeria denies imposing restrictions on French goods.

French customs data show exports to Algeria fell by about 12% to 4.2 billion euros in 2025, before dropping by the same proportion year on year in the first eight months of 2026.

French imports from Algeria, led by oil and gas, fell 18% to 5.1 billion euros in 2025 and were down 11% from January to August 2026.
