Madar (Nouakchott) - Prime Minister Mokhtar Ould Djay on Thursday, October 22, 2026, chaired the ministerial committee preparing the second phase of the Nouakchott city development programme and the second phase of the emergency programme for universal access to essential services for local development, the Mauritanian News Agency (AMI) reported.

The meeting found that most components of the first phase of the Nouakchott programme had been completed, while noting delays in some, which AMI did not specify. It also reviewed how ready ministries are to launch the second phase, from priority interventions to the requirements for an effective start.

The prime minister stressed the need to learn from the first phase and address the difficulties encountered. The meeting also discussed preparations for ministerial missions to the interior under the second phase of the emergency programme, whose first phase runs until March 2027, the agency said.

The 2027 finance bill allocates 11.59 billion ouguiyas to the second phase of the Nouakchott development programme.
