Madar (Nouakchott) - The Nouakchott Region and the European Union have signed an agreement launching a project to improve living conditions in the peripheral district of "Tarhil 16-05", through development interventions that involve residents and local stakeholders in setting priorities and implementing solutions.

The agreement was signed by the region's president, Fatimetou Mint Abdel Malick, and the European Union ambassador to Mauritania, Joaquín Tasso Vilallonga, who stressed the importance of cooperation in strengthening urban resilience and tackling the effects of climate change.

Mint Abdel Malick described the project as a new step in the partnership with the European Union, noting that it uses an innovative financing mechanism that is not tied to costs, in a pilot scheme with local authorities that she said was the first of its kind in the world.
