Madar (Nouakchott) - Mauritania's Minister of Economic Affairs and Development held talks in Madrid on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, with the director general of the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID), the Mauritanian News Agency reported.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the first day of the "Financing for Sustainable Development Goals Dialogue" forums, organised by the Spanish government with the United Nations Development Programme to speed up financing for national development strategies.

The talks focused on strengthening the two countries' development partnership, in particular expanding the portfolio of concessional financing towards priority sectors, and on the resilience and community development project in the Senegal River valley, including ways to mobilise more funding and speed up its implementation.

Mauritania's National Assembly approved a 50 million euro Spanish loan on Tuesday to finance the project. The AECID director general praised the level of cooperation and said the agency would keep supporting structural projects in Mauritania, according to the same source.
