A Mauritanian student has achieved continental recognition after his project was selected among the top three African projects in the "Innovation for social impact and good governance" category of the African presidential youth competition in artificial intelligence and robotics.
The competition, organised by the African Union Development Agency (AUDA-NEPAD) with the Ele-vate AI Africa initiative, drew more than 6,000 projects from 49 African countries, of which only 36 reached the final stage.
The University of Nouakchott said on its official page that the winner, a 2024-2025 graduate of its master's programme in information systems, had achieved a result that makes the university and Mauritania proud.
The university said the distinction reflects its graduates' skills and their ability to use artificial intelligence and innovation for development, with a positive impact on society and support for good governance.
