Mauritania's national security directorate has imposed administrative sanctions on five police commissioners, most of them posted in Nouakchott, over various professional incidents and violations.

The sanctions suspend those concerned for one month within their workplaces, according to the independent Al-Akhbar news agency.

The measures relate to violations found during inspections of police stations, leaving the country without prior authorisation, and a dispute between a commissioner and one of his officers that ended in a confrontation.
