Mauritania's minister of trade and tourism, Zeinebou Mint Ahmednah, said the second phase of the emergency programme for access to essential services will focus on identifying development projects according to the specific features of the Adrar region and the interventions and services its departments need.
Launching consultations on the new phase in Atar, the minister said an assessment of phase-one achievements would form the basis for shaping the next phase, so that projects are directed towards priorities set by residents.
She stressed the importance of involving citizens and local elected officials in shaping development choices, saying the success of government programmes depends on how well they respond to local realities and residents' expectations.
