The National Rally for Reform and Development (Tewassoul) held a political seminar in Nouakchott on Saturday evening on the opposition's role in facing calls to extend presidential terms, fighting corruption and resisting restrictions on public freedoms.
The party's vice-president, El Hassen Ould Mohamed, said corruption was one of the main causes of declining public services, stressing the need to strengthen oversight and address shortcomings. He also called for respect for freedoms and the release of detained politicians and human rights activists.
The seminar covered several themes, including the risks of extending terms, the impact of widespread corruption on services and signs of restrictions on freedoms, with the participation of members of parliament and academics.
