Mali is moving to widen its partnership with Russia to include intelligence sharing, stronger cybersecurity and the development of territorial surveillance mechanisms.

This emerged from talks between President Assimi Goita and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin in Moscow on the sidelines of the Russia-Africa summit, which also covered cooperation in energy, mining and infrastructure.

On education, Putin announced an increase in the number of scholarships for Malian students to 300 for the 2026-2027 academic year.
