Madar (Algiers) - The foreign ministers of Tunisia, Algeria and Egypt met in Algiers on Sunday, October 25, 2026, and issued a joint communique calling for simultaneous presidential and legislative elections in Libya to end the transitional phases and institutional division, Tunisian news site Webdo reported on Monday, October 26.

According to the communique, the ministers backed UN and international efforts to hold free and fair elections on the basis of a consensual constitutional and legal framework. They said successive transitions were worsening the crisis and called for unified and stable institutions.

They called for a Libyan-led and Libyan-owned process based on dialogue and national consensus, and reaffirmed support for the UN-led political process through the UN Support Mission in Libya.

The text also calls for the withdrawal of foreign forces, mercenaries and foreign fighters, rejects external interference, urges faster unification of the military and security institutions, and calls for preserving Libya's resources and frozen overseas assets, to be managed in line with relevant UN Security Council resolutions.

The three countries agreed to keep coordinating in regional and international bodies. The next meeting will be held in Tunisia on a date to be agreed, the same source said; it did not report any Libyan or UN reaction.
