Madar (Algiers) - Members of Algeria's National People's Assembly (APN), the lower house of parliament, on Sunday, October 25, 2026, approved by absolute majority the notification sent by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune on sending units of the National People's Army (ANP) abroad, to the Republic of Niger, the official APS news agency reported.
The vote took place in a closed session chaired by the assembly's president, Khalida Boufedeche, after the Council of the Nation unanimously approved the same notification in a closed plenary chaired by its president, Azouz Nasri, under Article 136 (paragraph 3) of the Constitution.
The notification has thus been approved by both chambers of parliament. The vote follows a visit to Algiers by Niger's defence minister, General Salifou Mody, who signed a military cooperation protocol with Algerian army chief of staff General Said Chanegriha and met President Tebboune.
APS did not give the vote count, the size of the units concerned, the nature of their mission or when they would be deployed.
