Madar (Nouakchott) - Mauritania's Ministry of Mines and Industry said the gold miner Tasiast provides more than 4,000 direct and indirect jobs and that its mine accounts for 44% of the state's total mining revenue, according to figures the ministry posted on its Facebook page on Monday, October 26, 2026, reported by the Al-Akhbar news agency.

According to the ministry, Mauritanians make up 97.9% of the company's workforce and more than 70% of management positions, while the number of women employed has risen by more than 88% since 2020.

The plant's daily output rose from 15,000 tonnes in 2018 to 24,000 tonnes of ore per day in 2025, and the mine's expected life runs to 2033, the ministry said.

The company invested more than $28 million in community programmes between 2011 and 2025, and more than 230 Mauritanian businesses work with it. The ministry did not specify the period covered by the 44% revenue share.

The figures come days after the mines minister visited the Tasiast site and the finance minister held talks with the company on its contribution to budget revenue.
