Madar (Tripoli) - A preparatory meeting for the ministerial session of the Executive Council of the Community of Sahel-Saharan States (CEN-SAD) opened in Tripoli on Thursday, November 5, 2026, with representatives of several member states, Libya's official news agency LANA reported.
The meeting is reviewing agenda files and documents to be submitted to the ministerial meeting scheduled for November 7, according to the agency.
It was organised by Libya's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and attended by ambassadors and representatives of member states, as well as representatives of the Sahel-Saharan Bank and the community's Economic, Social and Cultural Council.
The ministry's director of African affairs said one of the key issues for Libya is the return of the executive secretariat to its headquarters in Tripoli, after it was temporarily moved to N'Djamena in 2019, citing "broad consensus" among member states on the matter.
The agenda also includes the organisation's financial situation, preparations for the ministerial meeting and for a summit expected next year, with no date or venue given.
CEN-SAD was founded on February 4, 1998, in Tripoli on a Libyan initiative with six states, to strengthen economic, political and social cooperation and integration and support security, stability and development in the region, LANA recalled.
