Madar (Nouakchott) - Mauritania's inland fisheries and aquaculture development agency (ADPPC), which reports to the Ministry of Fisheries and Maritime and Port Infrastructure, on Thursday, November 5, 2026, signed a partnership agreement with the association "Best Life for All" (BLAA) for the development and sustainable management of fish resources in marigots of M'Bagne department, in the Gorgol region, according to the Mauritanian News Agency (AMI).
The agreement, signed by the agency's director general and the association's executive director, covers the water bodies and marigots of Yama, Meyye, Niadi, Mayel and Guawradji, in the municipalities of Dolol and Daw.
The agency's director general said these wetlands are particularly important for developing inland fishing that directly benefits local people. She said the partnership aims to promote the activity, an economic driver in many parts of the country, according to standards and plans based on scientific data.
The association's executive director said the waterways are a lifeline for the residents of some 150 villages, who depend on the natural resources they provide, adding that inland fishing is a key economic and social activity in the area.
According to the same source, the agreement provides in particular for the socio-economic and scientific studies needed to prepare an integrated plan for the sustainable development and management of fish resources, and for mobilising the funding required to implement it.
