Madar (Nouakchott) - The governor of Mauritania's Tiris Zemmour region on Thursday, November 5, 2026, oversaw the distribution of food aid to 254 families affected by the recent rains in the region, at the warehouses of the Food Security Commission (CSA) in Zouerate, according to the Mauritanian News Agency (AMI).
The aid, provided by the CSA, comprises nearly 28 tonnes of rice and sugar and 1,270 litres of cooking oil, shared among beneficiary families in the region's three departments.
According to the CSA regional delegate, 135 families are benefiting in Zouerate department, 69 in Bir Moghrein and 50 in F'derik. Each family receives 100 kg of rice, 10 kg of sugar and 5 litres of cooking oil.
The governor said the operation is part of state interventions to support citizens affected by the recent rains, in line with instructions from President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani. The distribution took place in the presence of the vice-president of the Tiris Zemmour region, the prefect of Zouerate, the deputy mayor and the heads of the region's security services.
The charity of the national mining company SNIM had given cash aid in late October to 154 rain-hit families in Zouerate and F'derik.
