Madar (Niamey) - Niger's minister of health and public hygiene, Col.-Maj. Dr Garba Hakimi, on Wednesday, 4 November 2026, visited several health facilities in the city of Agadez during a working visit to the region, the Niger news agency ANP reported.

He was accompanied by the regional governor, Gen. Ibra Boulama Issa, the delegated administrator of the Agadez urban commune, technical and financial partners and senior ministry officials.

At the mother and child health centre, the minister toured the delivery room, operating theatre, laboratory, paediatric and neonatal units and pharmacy, and urged staff to step up efforts to improve the quality of care.

At the construction site of a haemodialysis centre, he was briefed on progress and stressed the need for independent water and power supplies and for proper waste management.

At the regional hospital, he discussed staff working conditions and the quality of patient care with managers, then visited the regional health directorate's garage and the cold chain where vaccines are stored.

The visit ended with a meeting with heads of health facilities and the sector's social partners, at which recommendations were made. ANP did not give a cost or completion date for the dialysis centre.
