Madar (Bamako) - A delegation from Glavkosmos, a subsidiary of Russia's state space corporation Roscosmos, has carried out on-site reconnaissance in the Malian capital Bamako ahead of the creation of Mali's own space agency, according to a company statement issued on Friday, 6 November.
The statement said the survey was conducted under a contract Glavkosmos signed on 23 October 2026 with the Malian Transmission and Broadcasting Company (SMTD-SA), covering analytical and advisory services for establishing the Republic of Mali's space agency.
As part of that work, the company's representatives familiarised themselves with sites for ground stations and facilities of the future Malian space agency, the same source said.
Glavkosmos also signed a contract with Mali's Directorate General for Higher Education and Scientific Research under which Malian specialists will receive specialised training in the space sector at the Moscow Aviation Institute, the statement added.
To implement that contract, the delegation held several meetings with representatives of Mali's educational and scientific community on the details of the training and prospects for further cooperation, according to the statement.
Glavkosmos, a Roscosmos subsidiary, markets the Russian rocket and space industry's products internationally and manages complex international projects. It says it has completed more than 150 international contracts, including the launch of over 350 spacecraft as secondary payloads.
