Madar (N'Djamena) - Services at the Chad-China Friendship University Hospital in N'Djamena have been disrupted by a three-day strike by its doctors, from Monday, 19 to Wednesday, 21 October 2026, over unpaid bonuses, news site Tchadinfos reported on Tuesday, 20 October 2026.
The site described an unusually quiet hospital on Tuesday, with only a minimum service to ensure continuity of care in adult medical and surgical emergencies, paediatrics, maternity and intensive care, and a few administrative offices open.
According to the hospital branch of the Chad Doctors' Union (SYMET), the strike seeks full payment of performance bonus arrears for May, June, July, August and September 2026 and the balance for April 2026, the settlement of deductions it considers illegal from January, February and March 2026 bonuses, and full payment of on-call and responsibility allowances.
The union branch said its earlier efforts had failed, forcing it to strike, but that it remained open to "constructive dialogue" towards a lasting solution. Tchadinfos was unable to reach the hospital's management.
"I had an appointment with a specialist, but his office is closed. The government should find a solution to the doctors' problems, because illness does not wait," said one patient, Mahamat Issa.
