Madar (N'Djamena) - Chad's Ministry of Public Health has reported 8 deaths and 250 confirmed dengue cases out of more than 3,000 suspected cases, according to an official toll presented at a press conference in N'Djamena on Monday, 19 October 2026, news site Tchadinfos reported.

Dr Fissou Henry Yandaï, the outbreak response's incident manager, said the disease was spreading fast and had already reached five provinces: Wadi Fira, Ouaddaï, Sila, Batha and N'Djamena.

Declared on 3 October, it is the country's second dengue epidemic after the one in 2023, the site said.

Ministry officials urged vigilance and prevention: cleaning surroundings, removing stagnant water, protecting against mosquito bites and taking anyone with suspected symptoms to a health centre without delay.

On the same day, N'Djamena mayor Senoussi Abdoulaye launched, from the Place de la Nation, a stepped-up mosquito spraying campaign across the capital's neighbourhoods involving technical teams from the central municipality and the ten district councils, on a gradual schedule, according to Tchadinfos.
