Madar (International) - Melania Trump, the wife of the US president, hosted Russian and Ukrainian representatives at the White House on Thursday, November 5, 2026, and called for building on a six-day ceasefire in the Russian-occupied town of Oleshky to reach a lasting truce, France 24 reported.
The meeting brought together Russian negotiator and envoy for international economic cooperation Kirill Dmitriev, Ukrainian negotiator and head of President Volodymyr Zelensky's party Davyd Arakhamia, and the two countries' human rights ombudsmen, Dmytro Lubinets and Yana Lantratova.
"We must now show the courage we showed in Oleshky," Melania Trump said, according to the French translation of her remarks. "Together we can build something more lasting than a simple temporary ceasefire." She handed the envoys letters addressed to Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelensky.
The ceasefire, which ended on Sunday, allowed the evacuation of residents facing severe shortages and was the longest since the war began, according to the source. Dmitriev thanked Melania Trump on behalf of Putin for her "remarkable role", while Arakhamia said the truce was helping both sides learn small mechanisms for preserving peace.
The meeting comes ahead of US-mediated talks in Abu Dhabi on November 10 and 11, the first in this format since mid-February. Zelensky spoke for 90 minutes on Wednesday with US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, and Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Moscow hoped Trump would continue his peace efforts.
