Madar (International) - Brazilian Senator Flavio Bolsonaro and his family landed in Miami, Florida, on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, after he lost Sunday's presidential election to incumbent Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, Al Jazeera English reported, citing The Associated Press.

According to the same source, Bolsonaro, accompanied by his wife and two daughters, stepped off the plane at Opa-Locka Executive Airport near Miami at around 13:30 GMT.

Brazil's Supreme Court had ordered him shortly after the election to surrender his regular and diplomatic passports, to ensure he did not leave the country before he could be investigated for embezzlement and money laundering. As a senator he had immunity from prosecution, but he will lose it in January, having given up his seat to run for president.

Argentine immigration authorities said the senator and his family entered Argentina late on Tuesday and, less than an hour later, boarded a private plane bound for Guayaquil, Ecuador, which later took off for Miami. The US State Department has issued visas for the family, the report said.

Brazil and the United States have an extradition treaty. US President Donald Trump has called the Bolsonaros "fine people".

His father, former President Jair Bolsonaro, made a similar trip to Florida after losing his re-election bid in 2022. He later returned to Brazil and is currently under house arrest.
