Madar (Nouakchott) - The governor of Mauritania's Tagant region visited the new hospital centre in Tidjikja on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, to check progress on its equipment after it was handed over by the contractor, the Mauritanian News Agency reported.

The governor toured the facility's wards and departments, where equipment is 50% complete, and stressed the need to speed up the remaining procedures and finish maintenance and cleaning work before it starts operating.

He said a committee to oversee the centre's opening was set up two months ago and urged the bodies concerned to complete the necessary procedures quickly.

The centre's director general said work was moving fast and that it should be ready for operation soon, without giving an opening date.
