Madar (Nouakchott) - A US delegation is visiting Mauritania to see on the ground the impact of US assistance for education and food security, as part of Washington's follow-up of its foreign programmes, the US embassy in Nouakchott said, as reported by the Al-Wiam news agency on Tuesday, October 27, 2026.
The delegation includes the director of US foreign assistance and the Africa lead for Republican Senator Jim Risch, both professional staff members of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
The visit includes the McGovern-Dole International Food for Education programme, which provides food grown by US farmers to schoolchildren in Guidimakha and other southern areas of the country.
According to the embassy, the programme helps children stay in school while supporting US agriculture, under the "America First" agenda. The length of the visit was not given.
