Madar (International) - Spain's maritime rescue service, Salvamento Maritimo, rescued 163 migrants heading to the Canary Islands in three separate boats between Monday night and early Tuesday, November 3, 2026, according to the archipelago's 112 emergency and security coordination centre, as reported by Spanish news agency EFE.
The centre said two boats were intercepted near Lanzarote, where their occupants were brought ashore, while the third was taken to El Hierro, the closest point to its position.
None of those rescued needed to be transferred to a health centre after first aid, provided by teams from the Canary emergency service, primary care and the Red Cross who were waiting at the port.
The rescues come a day after at least seven people died in a boat carrying some 140 migrants off Lanzarote, and as Spain's interior minister visits Nouakchott with irregular migration at the top of the agenda.
