Madar (International) - At least seven migrants died aboard a boat carrying nearly 140 people that was rescued early on Monday, November 2, 2026, about 150 km north-east of Arrecife on the island of Lanzarote, Canarias7 reported, citing sources in Spain's maritime rescue service.
Two bodies were recovered from the boat, while five other people were reportedly thrown into the Atlantic in circumstances that remain unclear, according to survivors, who described violence on board. The rescue vessel Guardamar Urania was carrying 132 people, including 12 women, to the port of Arrecife, the paper said.
Nearly 300 people were rescued overnight from Saturday to Sunday in two operations off Lanzarote and one off El Hierro, according to provisional figures, including 59 people of North African origin brought in by the Salvamar Acrox.
Off El Hierro, the Salvamar Navia rescued a cayuco carrying 107 migrants, including five women and three minors, about 9 km from the island on Sunday; two of them were taken to hospital.
The paper did not say where the boat had set off from or give its passengers' nationalities. The arrivals follow a weekend in which Mauritania's navy rescued 134 migrants off Nouadhibou and 453 reached the Canaries.
