Madar (Ouagadougou) - Burkina Faso raised 143 billion CFA francs (about 244 million dollars) through its public bond offering on the West African Monetary Union's regional financial market, exceeding its initial 100 billion target by 43%, Agence Ecofin reported on Tuesday, November 3, 2026.

According to the agency, the offering ran from Monday, October 12, to Friday, October 30, and the economy and finance ministry announced the results on Monday, November 2, without yet disclosing the breakdown of subscriptions or the identity of investors. The funds will help finance investments in the 2026 state budget.

The bond was split into three tranches: 40 billion CFA francs over five years at an annual rate of 6.60% with a two-year grace period, 30 billion over seven years at 6.75%, and 30 billion over ten years at 7%.

Based on the amounts initially planned for each tranche and the announced rates, Ecofin estimated that interest payable to investors over the life of the three loans could exceed 33 billion CFA francs if the securities are held to maturity.

Structuring and placement were entrusted to a consortium of the four brokerage firms operating in Burkina Faso: Coris Bourse, SBIF, SA2IF and Image Finance International.
