Prime Minister Mokhtar Ould Djay on Monday held a meeting with the leaders and representatives of the majority parties and the heads of their parliamentary groups to consult on preparing the government's general policy statement, which is due to be presented to parliament.
According to what was announced at the meeting, it follows President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani's instructions to make consultation the approach for handling national issues, and is part of preparations for the government's obligation under Articles 42 and 76 of the Constitution.
The talks focused on two areas: hearing the views and proposals of majority party leaders and parliamentary groups on the management of public affairs in order to enrich the statement, and coordinating the political and media efforts accompanying this stage.
The meeting discussed a number of current and strategic national issues, with participants presenting their views and proposals and reaffirming their support for President Ghazouani's programme and the government's efforts to implement it.
The prime minister praised the contributions and remarks, saying they raised important issues for the country's present and future, and said what was discussed would be taken into account in drafting the general policy statement.
