Madar (Nouakchott) - Spanish Interior Minister Fernando Grande-Marlaska is expected to arrive in Nouakchott on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, for a one-day official visit, the independent Alakhbar agency reported.

According to the same source, the Spanish minister will hold talks with his Mauritanian counterpart, Minister of the Interior, Decentralisation and Local Development Mokhtar Ahmed Bousseif, on areas of cooperation between the two countries.

Ould Bousseif and several of his aides met Spain's ambassador to Mauritania, Pablo Barbara Gomez, last Sunday as part of preparations for the visit.

Irregular migration tops the cooperation agenda between the two countries, with Mauritania preventing thousands of irregular migrants from reaching Spanish territory through its territorial waters, alongside a security partnership against growing threats and the agreements signed between Mauritania and the European Union.
