Madar (Tunis) - The European Union delegation in Tunisia has announced a new 80 million euro financing agreement for the Tunisian state budget, to be signed soon under the social inclusion support program, Tunisian news site Webdo reported on Sunday, October 25, 2026.
In a statement relayed on the delegation's official Facebook page, EU Ambassador to Tunisia Giuseppe Perrone raised the possibility of revising the trade rules of the Association Agreement between the two sides, saying the EU was open to this within a comprehensive dialogue and constructive negotiations with Tunisia.
He reaffirmed the EU's commitment to continue supporting Tunisia and strengthening bilateral cooperation, describing the bloc as a historic and reliable partner open to proposals to modernize the Association Agreement.
The announcement did not specify how a possible revision of the trade rules would work or the timetable for negotiations, Webdo said.
The ambassador also described the energy transition as a major area of cooperation, citing the ELMED electricity interconnection project between Tunisia and Italy, which is expected to boost power exchanges between the two countries and open new prospects for energy cooperation between Tunisia and Europe.
