Madar (Rabat) - Moroccan authorities seized 971 kilograms of cocaine at Tanger Med port on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, in a joint operation by border police, police and customs, news site Hespress reported.

According to the same source, the drugs were hidden as slabs inside a refrigerated container aboard a ship flying the flag of a Latin American country.

Initial findings indicate that the container had reportedly left a Brazilian port and was bound for a port in West Africa when it was intercepted in transit at Tanger Med. The flag country and the destination port were not disclosed.

The Tangier prefectural judicial police service has opened a judicial investigation under the supervision of the competent prosecutor to establish all the circumstances and identify the people and criminal networks involved.

Interpol's National Central Bureau in Rabat, part of the General Directorate for National Security, was also tasked with activating international cooperation mechanisms to trace the network abroad. The source did not report any arrests so far.
