Madar (Rabat) - Bank Al-Maghrib recorded 462,617 cheque-payment incidents in 2025, down 5.1% from 487,613 in 2024, but their value rose 2.8% from MAD 16.14 billion to MAD 16.60 billion, according to the central bank's latest annual report on payment systems, news site Hespress reported on Thursday, October 22, 2026.

Regularisations fell faster. Banks recorded 104,710 incidents resolved in 2025, against 192,346 a year earlier, a drop of 45.6%. Their value fell from MAD 5.43 billion to MAD 2.37 billion, or 56.4%.

The stock of unresolved payment incidents reached 3.51 million at the end of 2025, up 1.8% from 3.44 million in 2024, with individuals accounting for about 72%, or 2.5 million cases. The number of people and entities barred from issuing cheques rose from 677,000 to 691,000.
