The National Gendarmerie brigade in Dar Naim department has shut down a makeshift site used to produce local alcoholic drinks, in an operation carried out on Thursday with members of the Nouakchott South unit.

The operation led to the arrest of one person suspected of involvement and the seizure of 60 litres of drinks ready for consumption, along with equipment and tools used in their production.

In a statement published on Friday, the gendarmerie said the seized drinks are known locally as "sesame wine", adding that the operation is part of security efforts to tackle illegal activities.
