Parts of Toujounine department in Nouakchott, especially the "Teyou" area, have been without power for a fifth day, amid growing anger among residents, who have staged protests demanding an end to the crisis and the restoration of electricity.
Residents say the Toujounine prefect has failed to respond to their repeated complaints about the prolonged outage, which is still continuing with no solution in sight.
The long outage is taking a growing human and economic toll on households and businesses: residents struggle daily to meet essential needs and keep food fresh, while shops and activities that depend directly on electricity have been hit.
The crisis has also raised concerns about its impact on health and security, especially as temperatures rise.
Residents are calling on the administrative authorities and the electricity company to intervene urgently to restore power, explain the cause of the outage and take steps to prevent a repeat, and to respond to citizens' complaints.
They say five consecutive days without electricity have become a crisis affecting daily life, their livelihoods and their right to essential services.
