Madar (Nouakchott) - The health centre of Atar department reopened on Thursday evening, October 29, 2026, after expansion and rehabilitation work, in a ceremony led by a Health Ministry official and the Adrar governor's adviser for social and political affairs, the Mauritanian News Agency reported.
The work, carried out by a Spanish association running projects in the Sahel together with the Adrar region, added an admission room to the maternity ward and two rooms to the consultation unit, expanded the pharmacy with a medicine store and renovated the centre's existing departments.
The regional health director said the expansion is part of efforts to develop the health system and improve services for citizens, and that the new facilities will strengthen the centre and improve patient care, urging that the facility be maintained.
The president of the Adrar regional council, the Atar prefect, the deputy mayor, the regional hospital director and the association's president and its representative in Mauritania attended the reopening.
