Madar (Nouakchott) - Mauritanian Prime Minister Mokhtar Ould Djay on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, chaired a meeting at the Prime Ministry in Nouakchott to launch ministerial missions to the interior regions, as part of preparations for the second phase of the emergency programme to broaden access to essential local development services and an assessment of its first phase, the Mauritanian News Agency reported.
The prime minister said the programme aims to respond quickly to citizens' urgent development needs and to fulfil commitments made by President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani during his last election campaign, as well as the concerns gathered by ministerial missions sent to the regions during the first phase.
He stressed the importance of assessing the first phase and building on it, while keeping a participatory approach that involves administrative authorities, local elected officials, community leaders, youth organisations and associations in identifying real needs and setting priorities for each region.
He instructed the missions to list all requests related to essential local services by priority and to listen to citizens. The agency did not give the make-up of the missions or when they will set out.
