Mauritania's Prime Minister's Office said the ministerial missions preparing the launch of phase two of the emergency programme for access to essential services for local development are continuing consultation meetings with citizens across the interior regions.

According to a press briefing, the missions completed their visits to Gorgol, Brakna, Guidimakha and Inchiri on Friday, while the Adrar mission began its first day of work on Saturday and the missions to the two Hodh regions, Tagant and Tiris Zemmour held their second day of meetings.

The meetings are part of a participatory approach to preparing development programmes, through listening directly to citizens, identifying their needs and priority projects, and taking into account each region's and commune's specificities.

They drew wide participation from administrative authorities, elected officials, youth and women's organisations, civil society and political actors, as well as a significant turnout of citizens.

The office praised the level of engagement at the meetings, saying it reflected interest in the programme's new phase, appreciation of phase-one achievements and residents' hopes for continued development efforts.
