Madar (Algiers) - Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has pardoned 5,539 detainees to mark the 72nd anniversary of the outbreak of the November 1, 1954 Revolution, according to a presidency statement published on Saturday, October 31, 2026, as reported by TSA.

The pardon applies to people, whether in prison or not, with a final conviction at the date the decree was signed and a sentence, or remaining sentence, of no more than 24 months.

It excludes people convicted by military courts and those sentenced for terrorism, treason, espionage, murder, drug trafficking, escape, parricide or violence against parents, indecent assault with or without violence against a minor, and rape.

Also excluded are offences under the anti-corruption law, money laundering, counterfeiting, smuggling and breaches of foreign exchange and capital movement rules.

The pardon coincides with President Tebboune's message for the anniversary, in which he said the November 1 Revolution will remain a reference for national unity.
