Madar (Nouakchott) - The governor of Nouakchott South visited several clean-up sites on Saturday, October 31, 2026, as part of a campaign covering all of the region's districts, the Mauritanian News Agency reported.

He said the campaign began in Cheraa Cheikh before spreading to Riyadh and El Mina, and had helped identify priority public spaces with the administration and civil society.

Citizens are "beginning to understand that cleanliness is not the job of the state alone", he said, urging people not to put up with rubbish and saying the president's call from Benichab for a drive to clean up cities had met a good response.

In Nouakchott North, the governor inspected the campaign in the region's three districts under the regional cleanliness plan, visiting the planned dump sites and checking the readiness of teams and logistics.

The tours come more than a month after the launch of the national cleanliness drive, which has removed tonnes of waste.
