Mauritania's Health Minister Naha Hamdi Mekness on Friday evening inspected several new health centres in Nouakchott to check on progress and preparations ahead of their entry into service.

The visit covered the health centres of Riyadh 13, Riyadh 7, known as "Kosovo", Tarhil 17, Teyssir and Sokouk.

The minister reviewed progress on fit-out works, installation of equipment, connection to the electricity and water networks, readiness of digital systems, and cleaning, landscaping and preparation of the centres' surroundings.

According to the ministry, the visit is part of its follow-up of the technical, logistical and organisational preparations needed to operate the new facilities and to fix outstanding shortcomings before services to citizens begin.

According to the ministry, the facilities are part of the health component of Nouakchott's emergency development programme, which aims to strengthen health infrastructure, widen access to medical services, ease pressure on hospitals and improve the quality of care.
