The vice-president of the National Rally for Reform and Development (Tawassoul), Sobhi Ould Weddady, has criticised Prime Minister Mokhtar Ould Djay's announcement on separating political and administrative posts, saying the move remains a mere promise unless it is turned into practical measures that guarantee the administration's independence from partisan rivalries.
In a statement to the press, Ould Weddady said administrative and democratic reform begins with building independent state institutions, and expressed doubt about the regime's readiness to take serious steps in that direction.
He also criticised the government's performance on public services, purchasing power and inflation, saying the government's discourse had offered no concrete solutions to citizens' hardship and had merely restated previously announced promises and strategies.
