The Coalition of the Democratic Opposition has refused to give the Popular Progressive Alliance (APP) one of the seats allocated to it on the committee overseeing the national dialogue, despite attempts by the committee's chairman, Moussa Fall, to reach a compromise ensuring the party's participation, according to "Sahara Medias", citing a source within the coalition.

The coalition justifies its position by the APP's withdrawal from its ranks several months ago, arguing that the party's representation should not come at the expense of its own quota, and calling for a separate formula for its participation.

Mediation by the president of the Union of Forces of Progress (UFP), Mohamed Ould Maouloud, failed to change the bloc's position.

The dispute comes as arrangements over the committee's composition continue, with the opposition and the majority each holding eight seats. The opposition has so far chosen three representatives, while the fourth seat remains pending because of the disagreement over which party will fill it.
